At the same time, the breeze from the morning showers lent a refreshing touch to the air. Jimmy Tagala, Jr., has marveled us with his innate, genius, and virtuosic talent as he performed major classical works for violin. After the two-hour concert, Ulam Tokyo by Chef Eric Romero prepared the audience with authentic Filipino dishes. The menu included chicken adobo, tofu and mushroom sisig, vegetable pancit, and rice. A Performance to Remember
On Wings of Song Op. 34, No.2 by Mendelssohn-Heifetz
"On Wings of Song," originally composed by Felix Mendelssohn, is a beautifully evocative piece that has been interpreted in various ways. One of the most renowned versions is the arrangement by the legendary violinist Jascha Heifetz, which showcases the emotive power and lyrical qualities of the original melody.
Here's a snippet of one of our performances in the first part of the concert:
“Mutya ng Pasig (Maiden of Pasig)” is a poignant composition by renowned Filipino composer Nicanor Abelardo. This celebrated piece captures the essence of Filipino romanticism and nostalgia, evoking deep emotions tied to both love and longing. Abelardo, known for his rich, melodic compositions, created “Mutya ng Pasig” in the early 20th century. The song draws inspiration from the Pasig River, embodying the beauty and spirit of the region. Abelardo's ability to integrate local cultural elements into his music has made this piece a timeless classic. Gilopez Kabayao, a distinguished violinist and arranger, breathed new life into Abelardo’s composition. His arrangement emphasizes the lyrical beauty of the melody, enhancing the emotional depth of the original work. Through intricate harmonies and expressive phrasing, Kabayao’s version allows listeners to experience the profound sentiment that the song conveys.
